Homologation

Combat activities always carry some risk even if the weapons used are dummy and developed for this kind of hobby. Some basic verification points are mandatory before any activity where weapons are used to ensure the maximum safety of participants.

A fixed homologation point is provided for verification of weaponry for each activity. It is mandatory for each player to present their weapons at the homologation booth prior to participating in the event. Approved weapons are marked with a tag.

Please note

  • Any weapon deemed unsafe or failing to meet Bicolline’s safety standards will not be allowed to enter the battlefield. Any player violating this rule may be immediately expelled from the activity.
  • A marshal may refuse a weapon whose too heavy or who’s poorly distributed weight could pose a safety risk.
  • A Marshal can refuse a weapon if he does not easily recognize the concept of manufacture or origin.
  • Even the safest weapon is no longer safe when used with too much force and lack of control. Each player must remember that it is the touch that counts and not its strength.
  • Bicolline uses the metric system. The imperial system is for informational purposes only.
  • The weapon must have an appearance appropriate to the activity.
  • Bicolline is not a weapon manufacturer and does not intend to govern and explain how to make weapons.
  • Bicolline reserves the right to remove any weapon or shield without notice or reason.
  • Some activities may add more restrictions to the general rules

Less than 20 cm

Length

  • 0 to 20 cm (0″ to 8″)

Homologation

  • Do not do any damage and is not homologable
  • Not considered to be weapon.

Coreless weapons

Length

  • 20 to 40 cm (8″ to 16″)

Homologation

  • Must be made of foam or soft material
  • Must not have rigid parts.

Polearms

Length

  • 180 et 214 cm (72″ to 84″)

Homologation

  • Secured core extremities
  • Tip padded enough for thrusts
  • Density of foam sufficient enough not to feel the core
  • A minimum of 90 cm (36 “) of protection under the weapon’s head
  • Base / knob padded and flexible
  • Core of the weapon in bamboo or material that does not produce splints
  • Structure rigid enough for combat and to prevent a whipping effect
  • No joints allowed
  • Must have a shape that clearly indicates the ability to “cut”

Pikes/spears

Length

  • 214 et 274 cm (84″ to 108″)

Homologation

  • Secured core extremities
  • Tip padded enough for thrusts
  • Density of foam sufficient enough not to feel the core
  • A minimum of 90 cm (36 “) of protection under the weapon’s head
  • Base / knob padded and flexible
  • Core of the weapon in bamboo or material that does not produce splints
  • Structure rigid enough for combat and to prevent a whipping effect
  • No joints allowed
  • Must have a shape that clearly indicates the ability to “cut”
  • The tip of the spear/pike must be at least 5 cm (2 “) in diameter
  • The tip of the spear/pike should end with enough open cell foam and / or injected foam to avoid feeling the core
  • Each weapon longer than 214 cm must have a clearly identified beveled mark at 50 cm from its pommel
  • Shape must clearly indicate a purely thrusting weapon

Bows and crossbows

  • The maximum projection energy must not exceed 28 joules*.
  • Compound weapons are prohibited.
  • For all weapons that can use standard 29’’ arrows,. The EXTENSION STROKE is determined by subtracting the BOW BAND from the MAX ELONGATION (see definitions below).
  • For weapons that can not have maximum elongation of the board (short bow and crossbow), it is necessary to deduce the true max elongation of the weapon of the bow band.

Definitions

  • MAX ELONGATION: Distance measured between the top the bow grip and the bow string in full extension (29’’).
  • BOW BAND: The interval between the outside of the bow grip and the weapon’s string without extension.
  • EXTENSION STROKE: Corresponds to the difference between the extended string and the bow band.

*To find what is the maximum allowable tension to get the 28 joules for a specific weapon, you must first determine what the EXTENSION STROKE is. Then, transpose the measurement into the MAX TENSION TABLE.


Please note

  • In order to facilitate the approval of shooting weapons, we have kept their specification relatively simple. However, the assessment of the safety of a weapon remains at the judgment of the homologation official.
  • If your weapon fires more than 30m (100 ‘), it could be refused even if the values are within the numbers shown in the table.

  • Can have one to two joints, for a maximum total spacing of 12 cm (5 “)

Two-handed weapons

Length

  • 112 to 180 cm (44″ to 72″)

Homologation

  • Secured core extremities
  • Must be covered with protective material from tip to guard
  • For thrusting weapons, the tip must be padded
  • Density of foam sufficient to not feel the core
  • Can have one to two joints, for a maximum total spacing of 12 cm (5 “)

Arrows and bolts

Length

  • 74 cm (29″) maximum

Homologation

  • Tip of the shaft must be secured.
  • Arrowhead must be fixed so that the shaft can not at any time pass through the protection of the tip.
  • Finishing the tip with enough protection so that at all times, the eye is protected from impact.
  • The tip must be a minimum of 5 cm (2 “) in diameter.
  • The projectiles must include the name of their owner.
  • All projectiles will be approved by a paint stroke.
  • Only fiberglass or carbon rods are accepted.

Additional notes

  • The only authorized projectiles are the arrows, the bolts, the javelins and the projectiles of the war machines.
  • Projectiles are not designed for hand-to-hand combat. It is therefore forbidden to use them in this way.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that a projectile is in good condition before use.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that the metal tips of the arrows / bolts you buy / use have been removed and that the shaft is properly secured. Homologation officials and marshals can at any time grab an arrow / bolt and open it to verify how its built.
  • Weapons 180 cm and under must have an even finish (latex, injected foam, fabric cover, etc.).
  • Finishes in “duck tape” or equivalent are not accepted.
  • Repairs with “duck tape” or an equivalent to the tip of a weapon (last quarter of the weapon) are not accepted.
  • Repairs with “duck tape” or an equivalent that is relatively minor other than the tip, may be accepted but rebuilding part of the weapon will not be accepted.
  • Arrows and bolts should have an even finish (latex, injected foam, fabric cover, etc.). Finishes in “duck tape” or equivalent are not accepted.
  • A bow or crossbow fighter must carry at least 6 projectiles to be allowed onto the battlefield.
  • Round head arrows and bolts are NOT ACCEPTED.

Javelines

Length

  • 130 to 154 cm (51″ to 60″)

Homologation

  • Tip of the shaft must be secured.
  • Head of the Javeline must be fixed so that the shaft can not at any time pass through the protection of the tip.
  • Finishing the tip with enough protection so that at all times, the eye is protected from impact.
  • The tip must be a minimum of 5 cm (2 “) in diameter.
  • The shape of the weapon must identify clearly as a Javeline.

War machines 

  • The only authorized war machines styles are: ballista, cannon, bulwark and catapult. 
  • Machine can only be part of one (1) style.
  • The minimum dimensions without the ornaments are 1m x 1m x 1m (3’x3’x3 ‘). Measures are to be taken on the longest side.
  • Maximum dimensions with ornaments are 3m x 3m x 3m (9’x9’x9′). 
  • The minimum weight is 50kg (110 lbs) 
  • The direct range must be 30 m (100 ft) and under. A single shot over that limit could disqualify a machine 
  • It takes a carabiner ring at the front of the machine. The ring must be visible and free from obstruction. 
  • It takes from 2 to 3 servants identified by a red armband. 
  • Ballistas and catapults must be equipped with a triggering arming system. 
  • The appearance and balance of the game are taken into consideration. 
  • Canon must be equipped of a physical device to control the power 

Ballista bolts

Length

  • 71 to 91 cm (28″ to 36″)

Homologation

  • Tip of the core secured
  • Head of the arrow fixed so that the skeleton can not at any time pass through the protection of the tip.
  • Finishing the tip with enough protection so that at all times, the eye is protected from impact.
  • Foam fletching only.
  • Must be red.

Cannon balls

Size

  • 7 cm (2.75″) minimum diameter.

Homologation

  • Must be soft
  • Must be red

Trebuchet/catapult projectiles

Size

  • 31 cm (12″) minimum diameter.

Homologation

  • Must be soft
  • Must be red

Monsters 

It’s a privilege to play a Monster at Bicolline. There is no guarantee that you will have the right to incarnate it on the battlefield. 

Every Monster must have a story that explains its origin and its past, which the organization must have approved. 

The main criteria is appearance. A monster must, without a doubt, have the appearance of a monster by its mass, its size, its equipment, its texture, etc. 

Example : 

• MASS OR SIZE: Monsters are recommended to measure more than 2.15 m (7 ‘) and to be bulky enough so that they can not pass through the ranks of soldiers without disturbing them. 

• APPEARANCE: The creature’s equipment and shape must be different from large armored warrior. We have many orcs, goblins, black elves and other creatures who are not considered monsters on the battlefield. If you remove your mask or a specific item from your costume, will other players always think you are a monster? Are you inspired by fear and / or respect? 

• STORY: What is the role-play reason for the appearance of your monster in the Bicolline universe? Is this the first time we hear about you? Do you fit into the scenario or the universe of Bicolline? 

• DETAILS: Is your monster neat and full of detail from head to toe? 

• POWER PLAYER: Is your monster designed to abuse rules? Is it well balanced? 

These are all suggestive criteria and one can not be more precise without being too limiting. It is therefore the homologation officials ultimately approves a Monster.
